This thriving ministry is supported by St. Andrew's and staffed by members of several area churches. Food gathering is continuing and is distributed to those in need on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at 417 S. Bradley Street in Downtown Chelan, throughout the year.
St. Andrew's parishioners have given away thousands of small, olive-wood crosses at community parades, First Friday events, and any time the church is open as a material witness to Christ.
In addition to the regularly budgeted contributions to the mission of the Episcopal Church around the world, special contributions are made through the Relief and Development Fun that provides emergency grants and effective development projects in the most-stricken areas of the globe. Offering-contribution envelopes for this purpose are circulated once or twice per year.
St. Andrew’s keeps the doors to the historic log church open on Thursdays in the summer tourist season as a quiet, cool and restful place to meditate or pray. In addition, the church courtyard is open 365 days per year for everyone’s enjoyment. Our desire is to be a visible Episcopal (Christian) presence in the heart of Chelan's commercial center.
St. Andrew’s facilities are used, on occasion, by a variety of community and local service organizations. For instance, Alcoholics Anonymous holds meetings on a regular basis. The church Courtyard is also a setting for Bach Fest concerts in July. A small donation is requested of such groups and they, in turn, provide their activities and support to the wider community, regardless of the religious affiliation of their membership.
Music is considered an integral part of the worship at St. Andrew's. To enhance congregational participation, church music practice and study are part of the Christian Education program. Small-group vocal ensembles and special-instrumental soloists are included in special services.
Acolytes are adults and children trained to assist the priest during the service and to lead the procession into and out of the church.
Altar Guild is the group responsible for preparing the celebration of the Eucharist. Their work includes setting altar hangings and floral arrangements as well as preparing the church for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other services.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers are appointed by the Worship Committee and licensed by the Bishop. Their function is to administer the chalice at the Eucharist.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors are appointed by the Worship Committee and licensed by the Bishop. Their function is to deliver the sacraments to those shut in at home, in nursing homes or area hospitals.
Worship Leaders are appointed by the Worship Committee and licensed by the Bishop to conduct services in the absence of ordained clergy.
Lectors are persons appointed by the Worship Committee to read lessons from scripture and lead intercessory prayers during the services.
Ushers help greet and distribute service booklets to worshipers and guests upon arrival, receive the monetary offerings of the congregation, and assist the people during services.
Worship Committee is committed to studying liturgical principles and is asked to advise the clergy of St. Andrew's on matters of worship. Duties include the assessment of present services and clarifying worship goals and policies..
